National Collaboration
GRI is a member of the Ethiopian Universities Research Centers Network (EURCN). The network was established in 2007 with support obtained from the Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA) and The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). GRI collaborates with the network to generate longitudinal data for strategic information for the country and university researchers and non-university communities. The collaboration has two components: verbal autopsy and population updates through vital events registration such as birth, death, marital status change, migration, pregnancy, and housing condition following an initial census.
In addition, GRI has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) to collaboratively work on health and demographic surveillance activities.
Other national collaborators include the Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA) and Addis Continental Institute of Public Health (ACIPH). The EPHA has provided technical and resource support to GRI from 2007 to 2015. ACIPH has collaborated with GRI for research on the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine trial study.
International Collaboration
GRI is a member of the International Network for the Demographic Evaluation of Populations and Their Health in Developing Countries (INDEPTH). INDEPTH is a global network of health and demographic surveillance systems (HDSSs) that provides a comprehensive picture of the health status of communities. Through this collaboration, GRI has:
- Shared its data in INDEPTH data repository
- Produced several publications through collaborative research
- Got technical and analytical support
In addition, GRI has collaborated with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the University of Bergen. The U.S. CDC has provided financial support from 2007 to 2015. The University of Bergen has conducted a research project on Incontinence and Prolapse.
GRI provides a research platform to national and international researchers through its well-established system with experienced data collectors, a data management system, and infrastructure. It also shares data based on its data-sharing policy. Generally, GRI welcomes and is happy to collaborate in the following, but is not limited to, thematic areas:
